About me.
My name's Jack, and I'm an Army veteran, mobile mechanic, and flight simulation enthusiast. I served in the Army for 16 years before becoming disabled, so I spend a lot of time playing Microsoft Flight Simulator and DCS.
I got into programming which ultimately led to doing a lot of things for Microsoft Flight Simulator and DCS. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of meeting a lot of flight simulator developers over the years, such as Bill Womack from iBlueYonder Studio who creates scenery for Orbx, Phil from Virtavia who created the C-17 Globemaster III for FSX, and Ricardo from LatinVFR, just to name a few.
I worked as a programmer for the developer LatinVFR for a couple years, and during that time I assisted them by programming the performance of their entire Airbus fleet for Flight Simulator 2020. I programmed the WinWing FCU to work with their aircraft using SPAD.neXt and was also one of their forum administrators.
Way back when I played Microsoft Flight Simulator X, I created mods and uploaded them on Simviation under the name TruNorthAir. I've created one payware scenery (2AR5 Ashmore Field) that is still available on the Simmarket store.
I created these DCS mods for myself and friends for fun, and I chose to share them with the community. A lot of time and effort went into creating and testing them.
How much effort you ask? Well the F-14B Weapon Mod took me a good 2 years to figure out, for the most part, how weapons are written and attached to aircraft in lua.
Just getting the AGM-84D Harpoon to work correctly when fired from the F-14B took 8 months, because there were several parameters I had to add that I never knew existed or even could be used with this weapon type. Figuring that one out was like winning the lottery.
Every weapon type in DCS is written different with a lot of different parameters, and they're attached to aircraft differently with only some similarities. It's a lot faster now that I've created templates, but it still requires a LOT of trial an error.
Anyway, if you use these mods and find something isn't working right, let me know on Discord.
The last thing I want to mention is that there are a lot of users out there in the community who, for some reason, despise mods and modders who edit the existing aircraft's luas and create custom weapons, and they get very upset when you use them on their server. However, and strangely enough, they're completely ok with an entire modded aircraft that uses modded weapons being on their server.
For example, I was banned from the Persian Gulf 4YA server just for using my laser guided AGM-123 Skipper II that has a maximum range of 15nm to shoot a ship, but at the same time there were multiple modded aircraft, such as the F-22 and A-4E, flying around. I wasn't team killing or bothering anyone by doing this, but it happened.
As bizarre as that is, just be aware that those type of people do exist, so be careful when using my mods on the various multiplayer servers out there, even ones that aren't pure client.
